Is this course for ME?
This course is perfect for any certified diver looking to use a sidemount cylinder instead of the standard back mount unit.
Prerequisites:
SDI Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalent (PADI, SSI, RAID, BSAC or other recognised certification).
Must be 15 years or older (parental consent required if under 18)
What you will learn:
Our SDI Sidemount Diver Course will introduce you to
Gas management techniques whilst utilizing independent cylinders
Equipment considerations and configuration
Cylinder's for sidemounting
Regulator configuration
BCD (Buoyancy compensator device) / harness / wing options
Weighting
Communication and Hand signals
Problem solving
Dealing with total gas loss and hemorrhages
Air / Gas sharing
Water entries
Shore
Boat
Safety checks, ABC Drills & S-Drills and sidemount drills
Skills you will master:
Dive planing
Testing and checking of all equipment
Descending to a planed depth based on dive plan
Management of independent cylinders gas levels whilst perform regular gas switches to equally decant cylinders
Execute a planed dive,m onitoring depth & time, based on air consumption
Demonstrate ability to control buoyancy and achieve neutral buoyancy
Become proficient at Attaching sidemount cylinders while..
On dry land
Standing in shallow water
Floating in water to deep to stand
Negatively buoyant at depth
Neutrally buoyant at depth
Launch an SMB (Submersible Marker Buoy) whilst on Side mount and Perform safety stops as required
What’s in it for ME?
Graduates who successfully completion of the SDI Sidemount Course, may engage in sidemount diving activities, comfortably and confidently, without direct supervision, within the of the diver’s current certification level
The SDI Side mount Diver certification counts towards a single specialty rating to achieve the SDI Advanced Diver Development program.
SDI Sidemount Diver minimum requirements:
Perform all land drills and open water dive requirements safely and efficiently as outlined in the curent SDI Standards and Procedures Manual.
At Extreme Watersport we believe in providing full and transparent training, we encourage our divers to read and understand the standards of any diving course they undertake and make their own judgement on whether or not their training was up to scratch. Finally all divers undertaking training with Extreme Watresport must demonstrate mature, sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution.
